I design itineraries and sell them. I am the first to do so. It is a new profession. Would you rather make your itineraries behind your desk, using flawed guidebooks and programmes of other tour operators? Things may not turn out as expected .

You may misjudge the quality of roads, of hotels, of things to see. Would you not rather base your itineraries on the reliable first hand information I have gathered over the past twenty years?

I provide you with access to new destinations in China's West

I will give you detailed information on these original destinations, essential to organize a tour to them:

• Road links and road conditions, travel distances and travel times
• What is there to see on the way to your destination
• Accommodation options
• When and where to find markets.

Note that it is essential to know the schedule of market days to make a success of a visit. Markets turn an otherwise non-descript lifeless village into a buzzing place and a riot of colours, especially when traditionally dressed people of ethnic minority groups congregate. Some of these markets are on a fixed day of the week, others rotate through the villages of a county on for example a five, six or ten day cycle, yet others depend on the lunar calendar. Some of them are at their most active at midday, while others by that time already start breaking up.

I design your customized itineraries, based on my own research

I am specialized in China's West, but also develop tours that take in the whole of China. In the West most of these newly accessible places can be combined in itineraries with more well-known destinations like Chengdu, Dali, Lijiang or Yuanyang.

You can join me on an exploratory trip. These offer the best travel experience of all: every day brings its surprises, every day brings something new. For the winter of 2009/2010 I have planned research trips to Yunnan's not yet described border area's with Vietnam and Myanmar, where according to the provincial Chinese language map many different ethnic minority groups live. For 2010 I have set my eyes on the Silkroad province of Gansu, where surely much more is worth visiting than guidebooks suggest.
